Access to Good Jobs for All

posted on Tuesday, October 1, 2024

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time dedicated to celebrating the contributions of workers with disabilities have to offer and raising awareness about the value of inclusive workplaces. This year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All,” reminds us of the importance of equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities to contribute their skills and talents to the workforce.

Why NDEAM Matters
Employment provides more than just a paycheck—it’s a pathway to independence, personal growth, and community inclusion. Unfortunately, people with disabilities often face higher unemployment rates and fewer opportunities than those without disabilities. NDEAM provides a platform to address these disparities and encourage organizations to prioritize accessibility, equity, and diversity in their hiring practices. NDEAM is a reminder for all of us to advocate for inclusive employment practices and to continue building bridges to opportunity.

Our Employment Services
At EPI we believe everyone who wants to work, should have an opportunity to do so. We are committed to supporting adults with differing abilities as they pursue meaningful employment and grow in their careers. With the right support and accommodations, individuals with disabilities can bring unique perspectives, creativity, and resilience to any workplace.

Here’s how we’re making a difference:

  • Job Training and Skills Development: We offer a range of skill-building programs tailored to the needs of each individual, including interview preparation, resume writing, and on-the-job training. Our goal is to empower each person to develop the skills they need to succeed in their chosen field.
  • Job Placement and Matching: We work closely with local businesses to identify job opportunities that align with each individual’s skills and interests. Our team collaborates with employers to ensure an inclusive hiring process and a supportive work environment.
  • Ongoing Support: Our services don’t end once a job is secured. We provide ongoing support to ensure each individual has the tools and accommodations they need to thrive in their role. Whether it’s transportation assistance, job coaching, or regular check-ins, we’re here to help our clients succeed in the workplace.

The Benefits of an Inclusive Workforce
Creating an inclusive workplace isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s also good for business. Research shows that companies who prioritize diversity and inclusion see higher employee engagement, improved productivity, and increased innovation. By hiring individuals with disabilities, businesses can build a stronger, more resilient workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities they serve.

EPI partners with over 200 area businesses and the list is growing! Many share stories of how our partnership has positively impacted their team culture, bringing new ideas, enthusiasm, and perspectives to the workplace.
